An unfamiliar call from next door's hakea turned out to be a young Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo begging, very insistently. Its parents stuck their heads out of the hakea long enough to take a good look at me and then went back to foraging. First time I've seen a dependent young YTBC in Canberra. On another note (so to speak), I heard a Boobook calling from not too far away the other night. First time this Spring.
