Namadgi Visitor Centre and woodland area this morning was again
interesting. Nothing really unusual there - but a couple of species
not all that commonly reported were 3 Jacky Winter and at least 1
(probably 2 but the sightings were not only separated in space but
also in quite some time, so it could well have been the same
individual) Western Gerygone.
Indications of breeding activity were a pair of Magpie-lark building a
nest fairly high up in a eucalypt close to the western end of the
Visitor Centre building, a Varied Sittella flying past carrying food
and a pair of Yellow-rumped Thornbill with a fairly advanced but still
dependent young.
The irruption of Black-tailed Native-hen continues apace at Kelly's
Swamp. At around 11.30 - 11.45 this morning there were 7 foraging in
the usual spot on the far side of the southern end of the swamp. As
far as I can recall, this is the highest number reported from the site
on this chat line, but I am happy to stand corrected on that. 4
European Greenfinch were present near the fenceline corner opposite
the lower entrance to the sewerage pond area.
