I'm sure we've all come across examples of irony in the bird world.

My favourite personal example was seeing a Sooty Oystercatcher on Fraser Island. A rocky shore bird standing on the largest sand island in the world. The bird looked more puzzled than I did...

Last week I came across another example. While driving across the Hay plain I saw some Tree Martins circling. The nearest tree was about 25km on the hazy horizon! Yes, I'm sure they were migrating south but it did look funny, almost as if they were confused by the lack of trees!
