In June, I reported a pair of ravens building a nest on
Farrer Ridge. Today, it seems there are two nests in the tree quite close
to each other. Unfortunately, the big nest is so well concealed, one has
to lie under the tree to observe it. I tried this for a few minutes this
morning, and on three occasions a raven approached a nest (both were
approached), to within a foot of the nest, only to leave without entering it,
uttering something unprintable. I guessed pretty quickly that my presence
was disturbing them and went away. But my conclusion is that “stuff
is happening there”.
My photo records show that on 12 October last year I
photographed ravens feeding young that could fly, not very far from this nest.
