I had heard a cuckoo calling several times in the Bot Gardens in the past week - about where the Gardens' western boundary joins Black Mountain reserve. I did not recognize the call but thought that the COG cuckoo talk would clarify the owner. Although Mark Clayton did several excellent calls during the presentation, I did not recognize any as belonging to the Bot Gardens cuckoo. So I played the cuckoo calls in my BOC CD. No doubt about it in my mind - it was a Fan-tailed Cuckoo. I would be curious to know whether anybody else has been at the western (uphill) part of the gardens in the last week and recorded a Fan-tailed Cuckoo.
