THE PATCH OF WOODLAND AT OAKS ESTATE.  Directions to this spot are straightforward:  it is between the OLD bridge over the OLD railway line to Cooma, the OLD abattoirs (recently demolished) and the OLD tannery  -  and contains one of the finest mounds of OLD waste in the ACT.  It is also the haunt of Old Swoop, the goshawk.  Over several seasons Bob Rusk, the former Queanbeyan resident , defied the onslaughts to plot the various locations of the nest of this pair.  In the last 3 years the swooping has been less determined, so perhaps OS has mellowed or been replaced by a more diffident male.  Less than one in 5 nesting pairs around Canberra seems to contain an aggressive swooper, which is just as well given their numbers.  Also shown is a pair of G Currawongs that are resident in the area.
