Thanks Robin – what an omission! Using the archive,
I find the event was on 12 November 2007 at NMA, not NLA and the talk was by
Bill Gammage, who had conducted much research into the historical record.
The date given for the arrival of the Galah in Canberra in any numbers was 1978
(!) I remember my surprise when 3 strays turned up on the University oval
in Melbourne in about 1958.

Was it a year ago I reported on the seminar we were all
invited to at NLA, at which one presentation was on spread of Galahs, including
their relatively recent arrival in Canberra. This should now be a chapter
in the much-touted ‘Boom and Bust’ book, although I do not yet have
a copy myself.
No- Unfortunately the galahs
did not make it as a chapter in the book...scoring only a single observation of
their increasing numbers to pest status on the Emu fence at Yalgoo in 1965 (p.
20).
