Today’s view is entitled ‘BEFORE FLORIADE’. The floral
part of preparations for this year’s much-touted visitor-magnet is well advanced. There is a reasonable
question whether the well-fenced earthworks labelled as the construction site
for something called the “RG Menzies Walk” will also be ready. With
Canberra’s climate, ‘they’ will be flat-out re-lawning the extensive areas of
churned mud that now represent the Walk. Perhaps it will all be concrete
and gravel. I wonder if the theme for this year’s festival will centre
around tableaux along the Walk that represent significant events in the career
of the former Primer Minister. Given the ‘NO POLITICS’ rule that governs
this chatline, I shall not speculate on the events that might be selected for
that purpose, if indeed any are.
