I would say Ian's summary is right and page 4 of Christidis & Boles 1994 gives more details. I think the 1943 list you ask about would be the same one I reissued in CBN some 20 (?) years ago. It was believed then that the bird referred to was the Glossy BC although it was wrong on the list. Steve Wilson's book makes a consistent comment. I would just stick to Glossy Black Cockatoo C lathami and leave it at that.

Good idea to nominate it. Hope it works.

Greetings: Can someone with historical/taxonomic interest or knowledge tell me if the name Calyptoryhchus magnificus, is a former scientific name of the Glossy Black Cockatoo, which is now C lathami, or the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, now C banksii?

I am working on a nomination of the Glossy BC for listing in the ACT, and have an ACT 1943 bird list which refers to C magnificus with the common name Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.  I suspect it is the Glossy BC referred to on that list.

If someone can assist, it will save me some time researching.
cheers
Jenny
