Hi Jenny. C banksii was C magnificus until recently, based on seniority of name. However it was then realised that this description was based on a pic of an immature C lathami. I hope that doesn't make it more confusing...

cheers

Greetings: Can someone with historical/taxonomic interest or knowledge tell me if the name Calyptoryhchus magnificus, is a former scientific name of the Glossy Black Cockatoo, which is now C lathami, or the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, now C banksii?

I am working on a nomination of the Glossy BC for listing in the ACT, and have an ACT 1943 bird list which refers to C magnificus with the common name Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.  I suspect it is the Glossy BC referred to on that list.

If someone can assist, it will save me some time researching.
cheers
Jenny
