Paul Fennell is producing the new version of the COG book, Birds of Canberra Gardens. I'm assisting him to gather the photos required, taking over from David Cook who is about to head off to South America for some exotic birding.

This is a call for any members who have good photos of any of the birds listed below to submit their photos for consideration. The selection of photo(s) for each bird will be based on how well it shows the bird, the background/context, aesthetic qualities of the image, sufficient technical quality, and how well it suits the context in which it will be placed in the book.

There are some constraints and requirements to make this manageable...
- images already on the COG Photo Gallery do NOT need to be submitted.
- please only submit photos that are objectively good enough to go in a book! (If in doubt, feel free to submit it though). - for dimorphic species it doesn't matter which sex your photo is of, the book might use either or both. Probably the most distinctive sex (male) will be used, but not necessarily. - your original image needs to be at least 900 pixels wide, and not blurry. More pixels is better. - you don't have to crop it as I can do that and/or tweak it up a bit if necessary.
- please rename your images as follows ...

/bird's common name (as in the list below with no hyphens or
spaces)/ HYPHEN /your name with no hyphens or spaces

/ eg John Smith's image of a White Cockatoo would be... *sulphurcrestedcockatoo-johnsmith.jpg

Please don't be miffed if your photo does not get used, the selection will be done objectively but not with any particular regard to who took them or a need to include one from everyone. It won't necessarily be the 'best' photos that get used since as stated above, practical things like the book layout, photo size and aspect ratio as well as what the photo shows will be prime determinants. The reality is that most photos will end up being from the more enthusiastic (obsessed?) COG "press corps", but many people who lead normal lives and maintain a healthy perspective will also have good photos.
If you have a reasonable shot of a Koel please submit it!

*WHAT TO DO

*1. Look through the list of birds below and, if you have any photos that might suit, find your image.
2. Resize to be 500-800 pixels wide.

3. Rename as requested above and save as a jpg file.

4 Email your image(s) as attachments to .

Cheers
Julian

Julian -- I have some photos in the original COG book and in the photo
gallery.
I can supply more from the list above, some slides, some digital.
Do the slides go as slides or all wanted on a disc?

Graham Stephinson.
