Lindell, great that you saw the Restless
Flycatcher, it's been in the area for over a month now, but moves
around a bit, so you can never be certain where it will turn up (last seen
about 1 km away on Thursday morning). It is often is quite confiding and
doesn't at all mind a close approach while it goes on its business - quite
spectacular.
The other interesting thing to me is that you saw a
few species that I didn't in a couple of visits (doing half bits) over the
weekend. On the other hand you haven't mentioned a couple of species that
were quite conspicuous, in particular the Dusky Woodswallows (still at the same
spot as the previous weekend doing the same thing, including
consorting with Welcome Swallows). Double-barred Finches and until
recently Diamond Firetails have also been prominent.
Interesting to report the raptors, neither of which
is often seen there. There has been a Peregrine Falcon around there over
the past couple of weekends, including yesterday afternoon. Unusually both
times it has been perched and I've been able to get very good
views.
I think it all goes to show that you see what is
there at the time, and some-one looking at a slightly different time will see a
different suite of birds.
