Readers may be interested in http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/18/nyregion/18metjournal.html?em.It is interesting that despite the clear economic costs to ConEd there seems to be no concerted effort to control the birds.
The nest pictured is of modest proportions compared to some I saw! The article also understates - an unusual event for the NYT - the spread of the birds. We saw a large colony in a sports field floodlight array in New Have Connecticut, some 120km from Canarsie.
