Did another of my monthly survey visits to Tharwa
Sandwash this morning. Quite quiet - only 28 species and not great numbers of
any except Starlings! (and only about 30-40 of those). Its pretty dry there
now and by the looks of it, trail bike riders have been quite active
recently.
No Bee-eaters or Dollarbirds. No Rufous Whistlers
either - but still two Reed-Warblers and some Yellow-faced Honeyeaters, so
not all the migrants have left yet. No Hooded Robins and, surprisingly, a
complete absence of Thornbills!
Highlights for me were:
a pair of Nankeen Kestrel, instead of the solitary
bird I have seen on most past visits,
a Common Bronzewing,
an adult and an immature Black-fronted Dotterel,
and
a Brown Falcon, the first I have seen in the
area.
Cheers,
Bruce
