Yes they do often get big “families”
and this whole subject has been discussed in the same form, on this list, in
previous years and maybe also with pictures posted.

Maned Duck breeding
I would be curious to see your photos of 17 ducklings.
You can send as individual email, not group, to avoid difficulties of
re-sizing.
Denis,
I'll send you a private email with a pic or two. By the sound of it you
have broadband so not a problem for the larger pics.
With Ducks generally, the duties of
parents are largely restricted to teaching and baby-sitting, as the little ones
feed themselves.
Its probably not quite as burdensome
as looking after 17 helpless and dependent passerine chicks (or, arguably, one
Koel baby) - as we hear in Ainslie.
It is quite burdensome keeping the Ravens away, given that the lawn they are
grazing on is right under the Raven nest <grin> I just thought it
was amusing that they seem to be collecting them from other sources as
well. I wasn't at work today so won't know until tomorrow whether the
full 17 babies are still there, or whether they've collected even more from
somewhere!!
Cheers.
