I'm not saying you're not right Denis, but remember that 'boom and bust'
is perfectly normal for arid land seed-eating nomads like budgies and
zebbies. They breed in the millions when conditions are good, to build
populations up to a level which will allow enough to survive the next
dry phase, to be able do it all again when conditions again allow. It's
a classic El Niño response.
