UNOFFICIAL

I popped past Norgrove Pk today in my lunch break. In 32 degree heat a pair of Spotless Crakes were very active and out in the open under the first bridge from Dawes St. I suspect they may be nesting there as I saw one bird repeatedly disappear into a clump of sedge and heard soft calls. The 2 birds were also constantly calling to each other while foraging.

Speaking of breeding – the Moorhens have had their second batch. An adult pair were busy feeding a small black ball of fluff while last years pair of young (now adult size) stayed close by. Also 2 immature Swamphen still being shown the ropes and 6 small ducklings with their Pacific Black Duck parents.

Cheers

Marnix

A visit there yesterday yielded 4 Spotless Crakes and 2 Buff-banded Rails, as well as several Greenfinch.  We parked in Dawes St and entered via the bridge.  A patient and quiet wait on the bridge and attentive peering into the reeds on the western side (ie the side closest to the apartments) was well worth it.

It is I think the corner of Dawes St and Printers Way in Kingston.  The attached image may be helpful, although Google maps seems not to have caught up with a few changes to the roads and rail lines in that area.
