A mixed group of a dozen or so adults and begging young has been  present around 5.45am to 7am each morning in Cook in a piece of remnant bush on the Dugdale Street Tipper Place junction and may be roosting there at night.

Incidental observation of a pair of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos ripping into hakea capsules and eating seeds in a Dugdale Street garden on 30.12.8.

Sue's comment is very apt. It would seem that there is a small group of SPs roosting in a 'park' perhaps 1km south-east of the Wickens Place (Fraser) carpark area that is the traditional hotspot for the parrots. This 'park' area is in Flynn between Welch & Wyles Places & the loop of Herschell Circuit. Most recent mornings (6am)have included flights of 7-15 birds from this area over the surrounding gardens & adjacent suburbs.

Hi Philip

This could be because they have dispersed throughout Belconnen, especially Aranda, Cook and Macquarie.  There were at least 23 in Lachlan St, Macquarie this morning.  I hear them almost every day - 4 flew over just 5 minutes ago.  A few days ago, I checked Macquarie Primary School to see if they roosted there at night as they did a couple of years ago, but there was no sign of any.

In an almost repeat of nearly the same thing as a year ago, I with Maria and Judy went for the walk around the top of Mt Rogers (well marked walking trail with lots of other people walking their dogs) at about 7:15 to 8:10 p.m. yesterday, to see the Superb Parrots. Encountered about 40 of them in the duration. Very nice occurrence but about one third the number of Superb Parrots as were there last year.
