 The answer to below question turns out to be obvious, thanks to Martin for this response...

Cuckoo-Dove gets a big D because it is a Dove and Bronze-Cuckoo a big C because it is a Cuckoo, but a Cuckoo-shrike stays lower case because it isn't a Shrike and a Fairy-wren because it isn't a Wren.  You will have noticed the primacy of the Northern hemisphere in claiming the Upper Case.



 

is it Bronze-cuckoo or Bronze-Cuckoo?   If the latter, why do we have Gang-gang, Fairy-wren and Cuckoo-shrike?  What is the difference that dictates post-hyphen capital in Cuckoo-Dove but not Cuckoo-shrike?
