Yesterday the ANPS Walkers visited the Dalton area.

The first stop was the Dalton Cemetery which was a wonderland for native flora.  It wasn't too bad for birds either with Speckled Warbler; Jacky Winter and Diamond Firetail being notable.  A Brown Goshawk flew over without attacking anyone.  I recorded 23 species here despite spending a lot of my time looking at plants.

We then moved to a private property a little South of the village, but not quite far enough South to get into the COG AOI.   It had become cloudy and rather windy so birds were a little less common, but I did add Leaden Flycatcher and Mistletoebird to the list.  A highlight of the trip was being shown the Wedgetailed Eagles nest which I photographed: I am not sure the attached  image does it justice, as it was about 3m high (by which I mean the nest was 3m from top to bottom).

On the way home I stopped a little North of Gunning and did a 2Ha Survey as I was now in the AOI.  Not much around, but it does get a record for cell N01.  I subsequently got another record for cell N03 beside the Gunning to Gundaroo Rd.  There was a lot of eucalypt blossom around and many Noisy Friarbirds.  Also a magpie nest with tow large young sitting therein.
