A blitz update, Friday 24 October

Well the weekend is almost upon us and hopefully the weather will be ok, at least for Saturday. A few areas/grid cells remain either unclaimed, their owners have relinquished them or their status has not been confirmed. Anyone who is available at the last minute to do a spot of bird counting might like to consider the following.

  • drive out the Cotter Rd, surveying in H15 (eg near “Winslade”), take in the Cotter Dam G14 then swing back along Paddys River Rd/Tidbinbilla Rd to take in H16 (Flints Crossing) and maybe I17 – a GPS would be useful for this run, otherwise specific locations please
  • any or all of the grassland reserves – Crace, Gungaderra or Mulangarri in Gungahlin; Jerrabomberra
  • Yerrabi Track, Namadgi NP
  • Nursery Swamp, Namadgi NP
  • M15 – Canberrra Avenue near Harman etc
  • N12 - Goorooyarroo South
  • Rob Roy NR
  • Farrer Ridge
  • Blundells Ck and Warks Rd
  • Corin Dam and Corin Rd after Square Rock [I am assured the road has now been reopened, as of today]

And of course if you know the location of a special bird or an interesting breeding event, stop by if you can and make an incidental record of it e.g. the Pied Cormorants on Aspen Island. It’s amazing how many known birds are missed in the blitz because we are concentrating on other areas.

May we all have a bird-rich, useful and safe weekend!

Barbara
