Jack,
They were not by the dam but right near the top by the gate - at the top
edge of the regrowth area. The habitat seemed suitable with plenty of long
grass and with nearby shrubs/regrowth for cover, which is where they flew
to after being initially flushed from the path edge.

It reminded me of the habitat I have seen this species in often at Lake
Ginninderra Peninsula and the eastern foreshore of the lake in the past.

Cheers

Marnix, I assume this was near the dam, where they are often present. A
bigger surprise is that they are also present on the higher slopes in what
appears to be unsuitable habitat, and where they were seen and heard over
the weekend.
