COG Members with an interest in Swift Parrots might be interested to know that Tasmanian birders are concerned about the rise of Rainbow Lorikeets in that State. This has been discussed in some detail on a blog entry: "Parrot Heaven"

Part of the debate is historical, about whether these birds were originally cage bird escapees, or were released deliberately. In fact they might have arrived naturally. Regardless of the hows and whys, the Tasmanian birders are concerned that the Rainbows are so aggressive that they might out compete the Swift Parrots. So, that could gradually reduce their numbers.
