I have just received a 'phone update from the members who were the last to leave the site of the end of the walk.

They added a Little Eagle being harassed by several magpies) at the end point of the walk and on returning to their cars at the start were graced with a Double-barred Finch leaving its nest!

The COG Atlas record has been updated.

.. but not for the 13 Wednesday Walkers who proceeded from Scrivener Dam to Kirkpatrick St this morning.  Beautiful weather, excellent company and 50 species recorded.

The highlight was (IMHO) undoubtedly the 2 Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoos chasing each other through the riverine vegetation giving off beautiful bronze flashes as they turned.  It wasn't absolutely certain they had love on their minds (nor indeed that they were of different sexes) but it did seem to be a display flight and has been recorded as such.

Other interesting birds were the many flocks of finches (Double-barred, Red-browed and European Gold); at least 2 Eastern Yellow Robins and a Pied Cormorant.  Other breeding records were House Sparrow (IH); Double -barred Finch (NB) and Australian Raven (ON).

The image attached probably represents a first for a COG walk.

Finally, if anyone found a pair of navy coloured gloves in the carpark near the Zoo could they let me know.

Martin
