At Orana Bay (near the Water Police base), Lake Burley Griffin, this afternoon a pair of ducks caught my eye – the male, with a pronounced broad white, "clerical" collar around the front only of its neck) is presumably a hybrid Mallard, but the dark chocolatey female did'nt seem to fit the description of MallardXPacific Black Duck cross in Pizzey and Knight (eg "(hybrid) females resemble female Mallard with Black Duck's facial markings"). Does it fall in the normal range of these hybrids?
