Thanks to John Giacon's posting I popped out to Norgrove Park after work
yesterday.
I didn't have to wait long for a Buff-banded Rail to show. It shot out from
sedges almost under the footbridge John mentioned. After waiting a few
minutes it reappeared.
I then wandered slowly over to the small mudflat and there was a Spotless
Crake. Great views in the open on the grass verge. By this time the rail
had made its way along the waterway and was now foraging alongside the
crake.
I am pretty sure it was the same rail as I saw it fleetingly by another
bridge on the way there. Near where the crake was by a table were 2 'black'
rats foraging on the grass. Another rat scaddadled under one of the bridges
too.
I flushed several European Greenfinches from dense trees on the south side
of the park several times. At least 3 maybe 5 birds seem to roost there of
a night. There were also at least 2 New Holland Honeyeaters present while I
was there.
Cheers
