Dear List,
I will be in Cairns on the weekend of 23 and 24 August. Can you
recommend any particularly fabulous places in easy car-driving distance
that I should visit for some good birding?
In particular, what are the best spots now for the Cassowary? I have
failed to see it on three occasions - at Mission Beach I heard one
running away in a dense forest and only found a still steaming heap of
Cassowary dung (or what do you call ratite leftovers?). Thus, the
Cassowary has advanced into my top list of most annoying tick-avoider,
and I'd walk any distance for it.
If you know someone (or a group) who would not mind dragging a stranger
from Canberra along for a twitch, please feel free to forward my
message.
If you can help, please send replies directly to my email address
(rather than the list).
Thanks
Jochen
