Interesting. Would the animals then also have a
role in spreading Phytophora? I recall in the late 1970s the effort
that we went to to remove the swamp
wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), from the wildlife reserve at La Trobe
University. This was done because of the big impact they were having on the
plant regeneration being attempted. The reserve is substantially bigger now than
it was then but I don't know if the animals have been reintroduced. I too have
seen them (or I should say one) at the ANBG, several times.
