For what it’s worth I have been seeing colonies of Guinea Fowl in Tasmania (both Tamar Valley and Emu River Valley (just outside Burnie)) for at least the last five years.

Hi all

while cycling from north Ainslie to Dickson I came across some guinea fowl in front of the council depot in Hawdon Street/Dickson. I have used this way for 10 years now and have never seen them before, but friends who recently moved to that end of Hawdon Street reckon they live in or around the council depot. I didn't check, how many there are. Might do that tomorrow.

Does anyone know anything about them? The one bird book they appear in (Simpson & Day) say that they are not on the Australian List and they usually appear on Heron Island and other great barrier reef islands. These ones also seem to have different white and red markings on their face than the bird in Simpson&Day. (I guess, I'll definitly will go back tomorrow - with camera.)

Cheers, Susanne
