Digest Complete Book of Australian Birds (I have Second Edition, First Revise
from 1988) says that breeding season generally starts in spring but that male
sexual cycle commences around March with displays starting shortly after. So on
that basis, I guess displaying males at this time of the year is not unusual.
It would appear, though, that ducklings at this time of year is very likely to
be unusual and Geoffrey's suggestion that the current clutch (as reported and
photographed by Roger) is worthy of some sort of formal record is very apt.
