It is not true that most birds lack binocular vision.  Apart from raptors etc, many small insect-eaters are quite capable of looking straight ahead like us.  We (esp birdwatchers) are not nearly so good at the sideways.  Besides, they probably know what we are, to the extent they’re interested.
