There is certainly at least a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles fairly regularly over the western side of the top of Mt Taylor. I haven't seen Pelicans over Mt Taylor but clearly others have and both are possibles for your sighting. At a distance one looks mostly black and the other mostly white. I'll let you work out which is which.
 
Other possibilities include S-n or White Ibis, Little Eagles and Darters.
