There's not a lot of choice - Heather & Robertson, which is available is a 
reduced format designed for the field, or a more expansive reference book 
version.  If your son/daughter is planning offshore trips, I'd also recomment 
Hadoram Shirihai's "A Complete Guide to Antarctic Wildlife" - covers birds and 
marine mammals of the southern ocean.
