Hi all you Ulladulla campers!
The Jaegers that were so difficult to
find on the sunday morning became easier in the afternoon. I went
to the lookout in the afternoon when the sun was behind me and the breeze
had lessened a bit so that there was no white caps on the waves. It was easy to
pick them out, and what was surprising was where they were. While we were
looking for indiviuals flying to and fro, I found that in nearly all cases that
they had, either settled in among the "rafts" of Shearwaters or sat within
50mtrs of them. It seemed that the only time that they flew any distance was to
mug some unfortunate victim or catch up with other shearwaters which
had settled on the water after feeding. I'm not talking about single
Jaegers here, there was a cute little creche of at least 5,all in various
stages of plumage, PJs probing the rafts of Shearwaters. I'm sure that last
line brought a rush of nostalgia to the older members who will never
forget "P.J. Proby". Excepting of course, the
really older members who forget everything anyway.
It was also a bit easier I.D.ing the
shearwaters with some degree of certainty with the Wedge,
Short-tailed ,Fleshy-footed & Fluttering being the main suspects, and
so with that I'll call it a day.
Cheers

much
Ps I think that taking into
account the average age of COG ^ more than 90% would remember
P.J.Proby
Pps But then again possibly
not.
