If any one is travelling between Cooma and Nimmitabel there
is an interesting pond on the left hand side of the road about 25km from
Cooma. If you drive past the site there is parking about 100m past at the
gate to Bingara Station.
The road verge is narrow so take care but a scope would be
handy.
Yesterday there were Pied Stilts, Grey and Chestnut Teal, Shovelers,
Black Swan, Wood Duck, Black Duck, Australasian Grebe, Horary-headed Grebe, Rufous
Song Lark, Purple Swamp-hen, White-faced Heron, Masked Lapwing. At
one stage everything lifted of but I could see no raptors. There are a
few hundred birds there with plenty in the grass so there is a possibility that
there are also other species there that I missed.
Any way if you are there it is worth the look at this temporary
water hole.
