John  -  Yes, perhaps more a matter of the shape of the bare area, along with the shape of the head.  The 3 on the left are 3 different Greats, the 3 on the right our current Intermediate.

shows the skin not extending past the eye which I use to sometimes to differentiate between the two large egrets when not in breeding plumage
