Thinking back on it, you’re probably correct in suggesting the Bronzewing. I’d forgotten about their call. What I heard was probably a bit too slow between each “ooom” for a frogmouth.

Hi Nick. While daytime calling by Tawny Frogmouths (Frogmithe??) isn't unknown, it's certainly uncommon. I wonder if you heard a Common Bronzewing, which has a not dissimilar call? Just a thought, and if you're confident of your i.d., then stick with it!

I was cycling up Mt Stromlo about 10am today and heard the distinctive “ooom...ooom” call of a Tawny Frogmouth on the left a couple of bends below the water treatment plant. When I came down the hill about 15 minutes later it was still calling from the same location. I’ve only ever heard them previously at night. Is it normal for them to call during the day?
