I found a WHITE-WINGED TRILLER nest today at the Duntroon sports fields. It
had two healthy looking nestlings, one was already stretching its small
wings. Both a male and a female parent came to feed them while I watched.
There were at least another two male birds around as well, all very vocal.
The nest was in a she-oak (C. cunninghami) directly above a gravel pathway.
It seems a slightly unusual spot for a triller nest considering they are a
declining woodland species and I wouldn't have expected them to nest in
planted casuarinas in a 'field' of exotic grasses and weeds.
Other birds here and in the neighbouring horse paddocks included RUFOUS
SONGLARKS, BROWN SONGLARK and HORSFIELD'S BRONZE-CUCKOO. There are also
DUSKY WOODSWALLOWS nesting along Kallaroo Rd in Pialligo.
Cheers
