Presumably the same Koel has been calling the last two nights/early am at
some distance (from Ainslie) in the Braddon/Reid direction. This morning it
was in a tall tree (hornbeam?) in Batman Street (between Goreen and
Elimatta Sts), where it was calling at maximum volume at 6.15 a.m. (easily
heard over one km away in Ainslie). A Batman resident on his morning jog
said it came 'every year', and he wouldnt mind shooting it!
Correction to my earlier 16 Nov posting - not a "Lime" tree of course,
but a Plane.

PM, possibly same bird by Friday am in Higgins Cres. First I've heard in
Braddon Ainslie area this year too.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Common Koel in Ainslie
Just been watching (and being deafened by) a Common Koel perched 15 m up
a
large Lime tree in garden on corner of Higgins Cresc and Drake Str
(Ainslie), calling at full blast. First heard it (half a km away) at c.
6.30 am. First hearing/sight in this part of Ainslie this year. Robin
