The Whistling Kite chicks look ready to take their first gravity defying leap.  One has left the nest and was perched in the tree, and the other was standing at the edge of the nest.  Excellent views of the immature plumage, brown backs with pale buff spots, fronts heavily streaked.   A grey wing and other remnant bird parts are caught up in the tree below the nest, possibly the material I saw the adult bird carrying during the Bird Blitz.  What behaviour should we expect from now on?  Will they start flying and disappear, or will they remain in close proximity to the nest?  I probably won't get back to check until next weekend

Aust White Ibis are also breeding close by, though not on the scale reported by Con from Yowani Golf Club.  There are 6 active nests (probably more) and I'm pretty sure a pair of Royal Spoonbills also have a nest.  There was at least one other Royal Spoonbill  and several Straw-necked Ibis in the same area, but I couldn't detect any nesting activity by the latter.

Also seen were 3 Nankeen Night Herons, .excellent views (for a change), incl one being savagely attacked by a Currawong.

Cheers
