I think that the sound Geoffrey is describing is
what the female of the Pied Currawong pair nesting in the tree in my yard uses
as a copulation invitation call. This all leads me to wonder where would one
draw the line between what parts of the repertoire of the Pied Currawong
constitute "song" and which parts constitute "calls". Not that I think there
really is a dividing difference in this species (in many species there is).
Someone wrote recently to B-A suggesting a very different learning / instinctive
component applies to song and calls. A point I disagreed with at the
time.
