What about a White-plumed Honeyeater? Especially its territorial display call…

Their other name is the Chick-o-wee isn’t it?

Just words are hard at this but how about Pied Currawong or Red Wattlebird would both fit the description.

Bird call heard in suburban Hughes at 4am (while I'm in bed, too
comatose to get up and search for the bird).

Chuck wee chuck wee chuck wee

and sometimes

Chuck wee chuck wee chuck

quite quietly (ie not far away) and introspectively.

Can anyone suggest an utterer for this call, is it the warming up call
of some very common sp?
