Pardon my German

In the wake of the number of well-meaning members who corrected my attempt at quoting German, I somehow hear Old Thunderguts (I've sanitised that sobriquet a little), my erstwhile Latin teacher, bawling at me from Heaven or wherever that terror of our happy school days now strides as he wields Latin primer, derogatory tongue and heavy wooden ruler. I'll be checking a dictionary in future before deviating from plain English.
