On this chatline, this year, Stu Harris reported one in Hughes on 11 Aug.

On early sightings I might repeat my 2 Aug mention of a Noisy Friarbird on Mugga Lane.  (Some years individuals of that species, as of some other migrants, can be found here through winter.  I would not suggest the Koel is in that category though.)

The GBS shows several records from 2002 in the second week of October but in most other years a week or two later than that.

The earliest endorsed record for a Common Koel - in Rarities Panel records - was for 8 September (in 1989, at the ANU). There are, however, very few records before November in most years. Barbara Allan, secretary, COG Rarities Panel

A family member in Yass has just advised me that "that bird is back!".  The Koel calling in Victoria Park car park at 11.30 last night.

Is that a very early record?
