Good morning all,
For those who have expressed an interest in joining
the bird banding team at Iron
Range in November 2008, or those who are still thinking about
it, I have some good news. Fred van Gessel who is organising the trip has
advised me that he has managed to sort out our permit problems with the Queensland authorities
(famous last words!!) so we should be able to go ahead as planned. For those
that have contacted me about coming, I will have a list of species that have
been banded at the site from 1990 until the last trip in 2005 (58 species so
far) that I will bring to the September COG meeting. There is also a full list
of all species seen at the site but at present I don’t a copy of
it. Whilst I know it is a long way off, I would like to have a reasonably firm commitment
by the end of this year so that we can inform the Qld authorities just who will
be present as part of the permit requirements – that’s how long it
takes to organise these things!!!!!!!!!!!
Some people have also asked me if there is are any
people looking to share rides/hire car costs etc among those who have expressed
an interest in coming. If you want to be considered among this group send me an email and I will put you in
touch with any others. However please note, I am not organising people or rides
etc. I will show people the birds when they get to Iron Range
and can suggest where people may wish to go bird watching on the way up or
back. It is up to you to get yourselves there.
Cheers,
Mark
