At the Fyshwick sewage ponds

http://canberrabirds.org.au/FyshwickSewagePondsMap.htm

At pond 6, three cisticolas, and 2 grassbirds (calling). Lots of flying tiny insects had brought in 32 welcome swallows. A flock of 30 silver gulls also flew over and landed at Pond 3. Blue billed ducks were on ponds 6 and 4, with seven birds on each. More males than females, so maybe the females are nesting?? Particularly on Pond 4 the birds seemed eager to swim ‘towards’ me (NW corner) suggesting they may have nests. I gave up counting but there were also about 11 Aust shovellers, and many other coots, moorhens, hardheads, grey teal and grebes on pond 6 and less on pond 4.

At pond 1 a pair of black ducks with 8 tiny ducklings. A pair of pink ears. Another cisticola hawking insects.

Kellys swamp- 1 pelican, a Horsfield’s Bronze Cuckoo, but I didn’t see any stilts. 3 new hollands. Swans with 2 ‘cygnets’, I don’t know what has happened to my spelling. All waterbirds were dashing around after flying insects. The other day I saw a black shouldered kite and 2 kookaburras here, but not today.
