A couple of listings recently commented on the footage of Bearded Vultures/lammergeiers during the TV coverage of the Tour de France.  From this article in the e-Australian today
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22206506-30417,00.html  perhaps the peleton was viewed as a potential service from Meals on Wheels?

My own view is that the comments by Denis Vincent, quoted in the article are spot on.  Having had a fair bit to do with sheep and cattle in my youth and seen a fair few vutures feeding in East Africa, if a sheep/cow sits still while a vulture pecks it the animal is already extemely sick.

It is however pleasing to see that the vulture numbers are so high.
