I have been birding a little bit lately.

Saturday

Aranda

27 pied currawongs flew over (heading south) as did 13 SC cockatoos. 1 grey currawong. 1 eastern yellow robin. 7 gang gangs. 5 magpies in the controlled burn. I think I heard a speckled warbler, but couldn’t locate it. 5 eastern spinebills. At least 126 grey kangaroos with 88 West of Bindubi and 36 East of Bindubi in the paddocks and 2 in the controlled burn spot. 2 rabbits.

Sunday

Gossan Hill-East side

Lots of birds, 11 gang gangs including 2 immatures. 8 king parrots. 7 WW choughs, 8 or so crimson rosellas. 3 eastern spinebills. 2 kangaroos (which seemed strange). The shrubs are budding very well and it will be a great spring unless they get bulldozed more.

Bruce ridge

1 boobook on dusk freaked out the fairy wrens. Female WT tree creeper seen digging into a wattle with its beak, like a woodpecker. I got to within 2m. 2 eastern spinebills. 1 Grey currawong.  3 ravens.

Jack mentioned at the COG meeting a lack of honeyeaters. Well I have not seen this many eastern spinebills for years, even had 2 in my garden. I will be interested to see the GBS.  Also I haven’t seen a gang gang for ages, but seemed to be plenty at aranda and gossan.
