Hi!
Believe it or not Geoffrey we here in the big Tass, do have an icon similar to the salami you suggest.
  Paul Lennon, the premier of the state,(before he had his " Little Johnnie makeover") who with his florid complexion and long crew cut type of hairstyle was commonly known as the "Burst Savaloy". Which  was rather unkind as the savaloy as it has never told a lie, and to my knowledge has never ever presented its self other than being a savaloy,although I suspect would love to aspire to being a "HAGGIS". Which I imagine every humble sausage in the world love to be.
