The location suggests escapee(s) from the National Zoo & Aquarium.
They have or had 2 individuals in their collection the last time I visited
a year ago.
May be worth calling them?

Brilliant Mark! I just googled up some photos of the EG, and that's
defiinitely what we saw. The picture here:

is the closest likeness to what we saw today. So, is this something that's
often seen around Canberra?
